I am an Oakland, California-based consultant with over 15 years of management experience. I specialize in interim executive director roles and executive transition management.
I got my start in performing arts management, when, after deciding that I did not want to pursue a professional performing career myself, I co-founded a small children’s theater company. I moved on to manage larger organizations, including an award-winning contemporary music ensemble where I helped produce and commission new works by some of the great composers of our time, performed by top musicians at venues such as YBCA and Herbst Theatre.
I found my passion for executive transition management after an experience I had as a permanent executive director. That nonprofit was experiencing immense change and uncertainty because of a prior leadership transition immediately before my arrival. Looking back on the experience, I realized that what I loved most about that job, and what I felt I was best at, was helping to restore confidence, harmony, and stability to the organization during their leadership transitions.
Now it is my great privilege to focus exclusively on the unique and important work of helping nonprofits navigate executive transitions with grace and confidence.
Education and Volunteering:
I have a bachelor’s degree from U.C. Berkeley and a board leadership certificate from the Harvard Kennedy School. My undergraduate work in Comparative Literature was honored with the highly selective Department Award for Academic Achievement, and I graduated with Highest Distinction (summa cum laude).
My first experience serving on a nonprofit board was during my university days, when I was selected to be a student representative on the Cal Performances Board of Directors. I have since served as the board chair of Leap, an arts education nonprofit in San Francisco that is best known for its annual sandcastle contest on Ocean Beach.
I have continued to indulge my passion for the performing arts as a sometime member of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus (including singing on their Grammy-winning recording of Mahler’s 8th Symphony), an avid theatre-goer, and an improviser-on-demand for the curious toddler in my home.
